Two Arrests in the Aftermath of London Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack
Two more people have been arrested related to a theft at London's Heathrow Airport in which 21 people were injured by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.
A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.
These detentions come after a probe into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the attack, two women had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a car park lift.
A toddler aged three was one of the injured in the event. A total of five individuals were taken to the hospital for medical care and were later discharged.
Officers detained a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault close to the scene. He has since been released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.
Police were alerted at about 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of a number of individuals injured by an irritating chemical thought to be pepper spray.
The attack - an event that police said was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - resulted in delays to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park for a short time.
