The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Developer to Boost Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined game identity.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire text from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the criticism to heart and reimagined the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. Following some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on next week.
Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the recent years producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him in the coming days. We are all excited to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.
David

Title Information and Vision
Project Ethos was announced in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, the developers presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary states. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, risks, and challenges that change every match. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your group can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."
The game lacks an announced debut schedule or consoles, but players can anticipate additional details as development continues.
