PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
